Hiyu Wine Farm
Smokshop Band Pinot Noir
Appellation: Columbia Gorge, Oregon
This intriguingly rustic Pinot pours a deep strawberry-brick hue and delivers a dense, meaty expression with a wild edge. Aromas of black raspberry, strawberry compote, and flamboyant dark spices meet intriguing burnished leather and forest-floor nuances.
From the winemaker: “While other Pinot Noir based wines that we make tend to be made as ephemeral, delicate infusions, this is closer to a traditionally styled wine. This feels closest to a Gevrey-Chambertin from an old-fashioned producer like Alain Burguet or Joseph Roty. This wine is extremely dense and meaty without losing any sense of varietal purity.”
Farming: Organic & Biodynamically farmed using a deeply regenerative permaculture-based approach, Minimal intervention (no plowing, mowing, vine tinkering), Extremely low spray usage, relying on herbal teas for mildew and disease control, Hand-harvested
Winemaking: Native yeast, whole-cluster fermentation, Minimal intervention, Unfined/Unfiltered, Minimal sulfites
